Closer by Mindy Smith
This is the first time I’ve heard Mindy Smith. She’s been releasing music since 2004 and has been on a steady climb with each new record. She has a new release in the works and the first single has found its way to CMT…and it’s good. Check it out.
Closer – Mindy Smith
It actually looks like Mindy has had a video on CMT in the past, but this was the first time I’d heard her and probably the first for a few others. The new song is Closer. It certainly does have that Americana Country sound to it. It’s almost like a little bit of bluegrass, which is great to hear today.
I’m not entirely sure what the song is about. I’ve been playing it back a few times. It’s just one of those songs that’s kind of unique that way. I think it’s about life and death and the struggle of life, but there is probably a more vague meaning that lets people interpret the song they way they please.
What’s really great about the song is Mindy’s vocals. She can sing. Her voice has a softness, but it’s also strong. She has a way of making you pay attention as she sings. You can feel the lyrics and sing along as you get caught up in the melody. This is a really great song. I’m not sure if it will become a huge hit, but there are different ways to get a hit today.
Closer is kind of a throwback song in today’s country world. I like hearing songs like this every once in a while. It reminds you of the kind of music that’s out there.
Don’t you think?
PS – Now I see that Jolene was the one that had the cover of Jolene a few years ago. I remember that video on CMT well. It was spooky and had this really dark mood. It was great and very different from everything else on the radio or on TV at the time.
