The Pistol Annies have been a big success. Their first record is doing very well. The debut single was a smash in sales (not on the charts really). Now, the band has one of the best songs from the soundtrack to the popular movie The Hunger Games.
This song is credited to Miranda Lambert and the Pistol Annies, but after you hear it you’ll know it’s a true band record.
Run Daddy Run – Miranda Lambert w/ Pistol Annies
I think I’m the only person in the world that hasn’t either seen the film or read the book for The Hunger Games. My only exposure are the stories I hear from others and the trailer I’ve seen. First off, the movie looks crazy. Kids killing other kids? Yikes. That’s pretty dark.
“Dark” is the feeling you get when listening to Run Daddy Run. There is an eery feeling that creeps up the back of your spine. As you listen to the song you feel like you’re marching to your death or something. I’m sure that was the goal with the track and the Annies do a great job with it.
This track is mean. There is a little fear in the track, but it’s weird. You almost get the sense that the fear has to be overcome with the pressure to survive. Maybe the song, much like the film, is about survival. If you’ve heard the rest of the music from the Annies and from Miranda you know this is a big theme. It’s a great fit.
Miranda Lambert is the name that will sell this song to fans, but the Pistol Annies are pretty big time already. The band has done surprisingly well for having little promotion on the charts. They are a strong group and I’m sure we’ll hear more from them together and as individual artists in the coming years.
It was a wise move to be part of this movie. The Hunger Games has only been out a couple weeks and it’s already one of the biggest movies of all time. It’s great to see country artists as a big part of the soundtrack. I’ll have to head out to see it so I don’t miss out.
If you’ve seen the film and have thoughts on it or the song please share.
