Here is one from a new artist. Well, I’m sure that Blaire Hanks has been working hard for several years to hone his style and sound. It always seems like new artists with a hit single are overnight sensations, but there is a lot of work that goes into becoming an overnight sensation.
But he’s new to us here at CML so we’ll listen to this new single with fresh ears.
Mixtape – Blaire Hanks
After the first pass this one might seem like the usual modern country song. It’s slick. It’s got some hip hop influence with a country theme of a guy and a girl hanging out with each other and having a good time.
But the more I listen to this one the more it stands out as unique. I can’t quite put my finger on what makes it different. It’s a little Sam Hunt without sounding exactly like that style. It’s a little Luke Bryan, but it doesn’t have the full Luke Bryan affect.
It reminds me a little bit of newcomer Chase Bryant. Maybe that’s where it sounds the most familiar, but it’s not exactly like Chase either. That’s a good thing for Blaire and his style. He sounds familiar while also having his own sound.
And this song is really catchy. I don’t know if he and his team have connections to get this one on radio. I heard it on Spotify, which is a great place to discover new country music today. We’ll have to keep an eye on this one. I like it. I’m a fan.
