Neal McCoy is back on country radio.
Neal’s new single, A-Ok, is fun. It’s upbeat. There is everything to like and love about the single. Neal has always had this upbeat sound to his voice and if you’ve ever seen his live show you know he loves the good things in life. Check it out…
A-Ok – Neal McCoy
It was pretty exciting to hear a new Neal McCoy single.
Just a few weeks ago there was news buzzing around the country world that Neal was working with Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton on a new record. Blake and Miranda were co-producing the new songs for Neal’s record. The news made a few headlines. It seems Miranda and Blake have been plenty busy on their own this year, but they’re making time to expand their career talents even further by dipping into the production side of things.
Neal McCoy hasn’t had a charting single in five years. Back in 2006, he took The Last of a Dying Breed to the top 40 and before that he had one of his biggest hits with Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On. Since that time Neal has been releasing new music to little fanfare at radio. He’s still been a popular draw on the touring circuit, though. I had the chance to see him earlier this summer and he put on a great show. He had hits to fill up the time slot and plenty of back and forth with the crowd to keep things interesting.
Now, Neal is on a new record label and there seems to be real momentum building. There will certainly be buzz surrounding the album with Blake and Miranda attached, but from the sounds of the first single the music on the record will be really good too.
A-Ok is about just that – being alright with life and what’s happening right now. With life these days it’s easy to focus on the difficult things. There is a lot of pessimism out there and it’s easy to get caught in the trap of living your life that way.
For Neal, and for a few others, it’s more important to focus on the good things still out there. You can spend some time in the outdoors, walk down to the park and throw a frisbee around for a bit. You can hit the local trout stream for an afternoon. You can do anything and life will be A-Ok.
Neal is perfect for this song. His personality is upbeat and positive. The track would come off as cheesy for a lot of artists, but for Neal is makes a lot of sense. I’m not sure if it’s him whistling on the record, but it certainly could be. That’s a nice little tough. Not many whistling songs are on radio right now, but I think there’s room for one.
I’m excited to see how A-Ok does at radio. I’m hoping Neal gets back on the charts and back in the top 20.
