So Don Henley has a new album coming out next month. I’m pretty excited about it. The Eagles have been one of my favorite bands for a long time. And I’ve been a Don Henley fan perhaps even longer, which is a little backwards.
Don Henley has long time roots in country music. He grew up in Texas where country music was always big especially when he was growing up in the ’40s and ’50s before making his way to California in the late ’60s and into the ’70s.
It’s been 15 years since Henley has released solo material, but he’s been busy with the Eagles and other projects during that time. Here is the first single from the new record.
Praying For Rain – Don Henley
It’s pretty crazy just looking at the harmony vocal credits on this one. You have Vince Gill, Trisha Yearwood, Ashley Monroe and Alison Krauss. Wow.
This album is supposed to be about the things Henley remembers from growing up in Texas. He’s going back to his roots and memories to bring those images to life in music.
This song is about the struggles people had especially back in that time with growing crops. It was a hard way of life back then in Texas and still is in many ways today.
The song is really well done. There are some fresh sounds, but it sounds like it could have fit in perfectly in any era in country music.
I don’t know if this will get any radio play or anything like that, but it’s a great song from a great artist with roots in country music.
