I don’t think there is anyone cooler than Dwight Yoakam in country music. The man has been on the charts now for more than 30 years. His big run came in the late ’80s and early ’90s, but he’s been having success with his latest albums as well.
It’s obvious people still love Dwight and from the sounds of this title track we’re in store for another good record.
Second Hand Heart – Dwight Yoakam
The big thing with Dwight has always been the sound. There has never been anyone that’s sounded like him in country music. He sounds like a few that came before him, but those influences obviously came from a lot of different places and that’s what made Dwight so cool.
He wasn’t entirely country, but he always kind of fit in. His songs have always been really good and catchy so that people could get involved and sing along. Those songs from the early days still stand strong today and this new music sounds fresh and the same at the same time.
I’m trying to interpret the lyrics. I think it’s about a woman that’s maybe looking at getting involved with a new guy. Maybe he’s putting on the moves and she’s just kind of giving him a warning about all she’s been through.
If that’s what the song is about then it’s something a lot of people can relate to. We jump in relationships and sometimes they don’t work out. And we carry that baggage around with us.
Great song and great to have Dwight back on the scene even if it’s not on radio.
