This is my first exposure to Shawna Russell.
Her new single, Waitin’ On Sunrise has some great appeal. Her voice is sultry and low. It’s got a country feel and seems like it’s something that could have some success on country radio. Check it out and see for yourself.
Waitin’ on Sunrise – Shawna Russell
Waitin’ On Sunrise has this vintage feel about it. Yet there is also a little hint of new country with the electric guiar playing in the background. There is nothing extraordinary about the song and nothing that really stands out about the song. It’s kind of slow, but I like it. I’m always a fan of songs that have a good feel for the back porch on a summer night.
Shawna has the kind of voice that is nice to listen to as you’re sitting in the back yard just kicking your feet up and hanging out by yourself. It’s a good “alone” song. Some days can just take the wind out of your sails. You wake up and just have that feeling that a few things won’t go your way. You’re waiting on life to throw you a little luck. You might even be out making your own, but nothing has come just yet.
The new day brings a new chance for something good to come along. That’s what some of us are waiting for in life – something good to come along. I think that’s what Waitin’ On Sunrise is all about. We’re just waiting on those good days to come and we’re even willing to keep fighting and working our way through with the hope that tomorrow’s sunrise will bring something better.
There is something unique about Shawna Russell. I think this track could find some traction on the charts. I’m not sure if it’s the kind of hit that breaks an artist into the mainstream, but this could be the song that leads into that breakout hit.
I like Waitin’ On Sunrise. It’s my kind of country and maybe it will become a hit. I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to hear more songs like this on country radio.
