Here is a new artist I don’t think we’ve covered before here on CML. After the first listen I have to say that I’m interested. Jon Wolfe has a little traditional country in him. You can hear the influences in his vocals and I think it’s going to be a potential hit song. Let me know what you think.
Smile On Mine – Jon Wolfe
I knew I heard this song before – Joe Nichols. It was on his latest record.
And I have to say that this is a great version. Joe obviously has traditional country running through his veins and I think Jon has the same thing. He does a knockout version of this song and it’s really catchy.
The song is about two people that are kind of sick of the world right now. They’re looking to get away from the world for a while and they’re okay spending that time away together.
On the surface it’s a pretty simple love song or at least a potential love song and sometimes that’s all you need for a hit. It’s okay to keep it simple and I think that’s what Jon does on this track.
His version is actually pretty close to the Joe Nichols version and I think that’s a good thing. Joe has been a mainstay on country radio for more than a decade and I think there is room out there for Jon. He nailed this song and I hope it gets some play.
What do you think?
