Alright. I’m starting to get angry now. Okay maybe not angry, but I’m disappointed that Kelleigh Bannen hasn’t had a big hit on radio yet. She’s released some really great music, but she just can’t seem to break through on the charts.
She’s ready to give it another go, though, and I think she’s chosen a great song. Here is her new single.
Smoke When I Drink – Kelleigh Bannen
There is an edge to Kelleigh’s music. I like that. I thought maybe this would be like the song that Joe Nichols had out a decade ago, but this is something completely different. It’s about a woman that is kind of on the rampage a little bit and having a good time. She can’t say no to that good time and it’s bound to get in a little trouble.
There are definitely some modern country music sounds in this song. But I still think you can hear Kelleigh’s traditional country influencer. That’s what really stood out to me on her first single. But it could be a good thing to have something catchy like this coming out next. I would say that it seems that uptempo songs are generally the first for new artists when they have their first hits.
So I’m hoping for this one to climb the charts. It’s doubly difficult right now because country radio isn’t playing women on the radio and that’s our fault as fans. We need to call up and request music like the kind that Kelleigh is making.
