The boys in Florida Georgia Line have taken over country music.
They’re first single, Cruise, is still at the top of the charts. It’s been record setting stuff.
And while that song has done well the band’s follow up singles have quietly reached the top spot on the radio chart.
Now they’re moving on to their fourth single and they chose well.
Stay – Florida Georgia Line
There are some really great songs on the debut album from Florida Georgia Line. This is one of the ones that really stands out. It’s so different from anything you hear on radio right now. It’s also a little different from other Florida Georgia Line songs.
You could look at this one as kind of a sad song. It’s about someone that’s leaving and the other person trying to get them to stay even though it probably won’t happen. The obvious interpretation is that it’s about a guy trying to get his girl to stay. There is reference to writing a love song to make her stay.
But I think it could be interpreted in other ways too.
What stands out the most is the sound. There is no act out there right now that sounds like Florida Georgia Line. They’re on their own level.
It reminds me of the success Brooks & Dunn had with their first album. They came out with this in-your-face music that took country music by surprise. They kept rolling out hit after hit and never stopped for nearly two decades.
FGL brings that kind of energy. It will be interested to see what they do on their next record.
