There is no doubt Sugarland created their own genre within country music.
The group came out on the country scene 2004. Back then their songs were of the country-pop flavor. The tunes were catchy and full of positive vibes. As fans worked their way through Sugarland music and the tunes kept being released there was a different energy and emotion behind the songs compared to some country music.
Since then Sugarland has become perhaps the biggest group in country music. They still seem to focus on ultra-catchy melodies and that’s just fine with their hardcore fans. The style of their music also means they broaden the reaches of the entire genre and that’s a good thing for everybody.
On their latest album Sugarland has a new song called Wide Open and it’s another one of those catchy songs that doesn’t seem to fit country at first blush.
Wide Open seems to be autobiographical for Sugarland. Since their debut they’ve had a meteoric rise to the top of the country world. Despite criticism along the way they’ve been able to set their own rules for their music. They make songs that are fun, full of energy, and inspiring all while seemingly bending the rules of country.
Wide Open is about how to live life through all the changes that happen. Whether it’s love, a career, or a move there is reason to get excited about the rest of your life. Move forward with no regrets and let yourself be consumed by all the good things out there to be experienced.
Sugarland has certainly made sure their career is wide open to any and all opportunities over the years. It’s served them well and it’s provided fans with another great country song.
