Here is a classic country song from the ’90s. In fact, it’s almost exactly 20 years old. The song was released on January 10th, 1995. It went on to reach the top five on the charts later that year.
The song is Amy’s Back In Austin and it’s by the band Little Texas. You probably remember the band from their run in the early ’90s. They were one of the biggest acts at the time and for good reason. The band was incredibly talented and had a knack for writing and for finding great country songs.
I’ve always liked this song. I kind of remember when it first came out on the radio. There wasn’t any huge fanfare for the song. It was, however, a solid country song that people seemed to like. And it’s continued to be popular. I still hear it on country radio stations every once in a while. And I always let it play through when it comes on.
The song is about two kids that fall in love and go out on their own. It turns out that they couldn’t find a way to make it. Amy goes back to their hometown, or so the guy thinks, while leaving the guy out in the new world on his own.
It’s an interesting story on young love set to a great melody with a few ’80s rock riffs thrown in for good measure. Little Texas always had a knack for flair with the electric guitar and I was always a fan.
Great song from one of the great bands in country music history.
