Earlier this week we looked at a new song that’s out from Steve Earle. Steve has been on the edge of country and rock music his entire career. He’s been looked at as a country artist, but also has a rock artist. Fans in both genres have called him their own, but it seems that Steve is happy just making the music he wants to make.
And his fans love him for that. There really aren’t many artists out there like Steve Earle and that’s a good thing. And he’s created some really good songs over the years.
Most fans that aren’t fully invested in Steve Earle have probably heard Guitar Town and Copperhead Road. I actually heard Copperhead Road recently on a jukebox in a bar. That songs fits right in with that type of crowd.
But I thought we could look back on a Steve Earle song today and I didn’t want to go with one of those two. Those are ones you’ve heard many times. I wanted to go with one that I actually didn’t know existed until the movie Talladega Nights. There were a few Steve Earle songs featured in that movie, but my favorite was Hardcore Troubadour.
The song seemed to fit well with the lead character in that movie. Kind of rough around the edges and living life by his own rules.
You know the type of people that live this way. It takes a special breed to do it and only a few can. And I think Steve captured that emotion perfectly in this song.
Check it out again if you’ve heard it before. It’s a country classic that really wasn’t a hit, but perhaps should have been.
