20 years ago this week I Swear was the number one song on the country charts.
Country fans knew the song was great. They made it a huge song and it even crossed over to the pop charts. Then the R&B group All-4-One covered it and it became a huge hit again in the same year.
JMM has always been one of my favorite artists. The man racked up hit after hit for the better part of a decade. I had the chance to finally see him in concert a few years ago and he put on a great show. He played hits and a few covers for well over and hour. He wasn’t able to play a few of the big ones, but only because he’d have to play a three hour show to fit in all his hit singles.
It’s weird that JMM isn’t looked upon as one of the legends of country music in the ’90s. You always hear about Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain and others and rightfully so, but JMM’s numbers are pretty impressive. His albums were going multi-multi platinum and his songs were bigger than big.
He’s one of the best and the really good news is that fans can expect some new music according to his website.
Don’t count this guy out. I’m sure he still has a lot of good music left.
