Keith Urban is on top of the music world these days. He’s been one of the judges on Idol for a couple years. He’s also had about a dozen albums at the top of the country charts packed with hit singles.
Now it’s a no brainer that a new Keith Urban single will shoot up the charts. We’re used to his presence on the charts and country fans continue to love his brand of country music. And the great thing is he keeps bringing something new to the table and he’s always attracting new fans to his music and to country music.
With that in mind it’s hard to imagine that Keith had a pretty long road to success in country music. It’s no surprising considering that there really weren’t many country stars from Australia that sang with Australian accents on country radio.
Today we’re throwing back 15 years all the way to Keith’s first hit single on the country charts. This song “only” reached #18 on the charts, but it seemed like a bigger hit at the time. That’s actually pretty good for a new artist. This was the song that put Keith on the map and it made it easier for his next few singles to really hit on the charts including the #1 hit But For The Grace Of God.
But it all started with It’s A Love Thing in the summer of 1999. It’s amazing to think that’s it’s been 15 years. I remember very well when this song came out. It was before Rascal Flatts. Country music was just starting to turn from the neo-traditional sound of the ’90s into the pop-country sound of the early ’00s.
Keith helped bring in that movement and he’s still going strong today. It shows that he’s more than just a passing fad. And this song holds up really well. It still gets you tapping your foot.
