There isn’t much room for learning in country music today. Record labels are looking for artists that are already showing signs of success on their own before they sign them.
It used to be that labels would find budding talent and help artists to bring out that talent. The labels still do that, but there is less room for learning. It really comes down to time. It’s an instant world and there isn’t time for an artist to have a handful of singles on the charts before having that hit.
You better hit with the first or maybe the second to have a career.
Back when Martina McBride was starting out she was able to release three singles and an album. The singles did alright on the chart, but you probably don’t remember those.
But when Martina released her fourth single she hit it out of the park.
The song was My Baby Loves Me and it’s now a country classic. It reached #2 on the charts back in 1993. Martina went on to have a huge career in country music and it lasted longer than most legendary careers.
She’s still going strong and releasing new music. She put out an album of soul music covers earlier this year on her own label. The album has been a huge hit with fans and with critics. The songs haven’t been played on the radio, but the fans have loved it.
She has one of the best voices ever in country music. This was the one that really got it all started back over 20 years ago.
