Gary Allan has a new single coming out soon. I’m still waiting for the video to get up on YouTube before sharing it with you. If you’ve heard it I’m sure it’s wonderful so you’ll have to let me know how it is.
But today I thought we could throw it back to one of the biggest hits of Gary’s career.
Right Where I Need To Be came out at the tail end of 2000. It was an interesting time in country music. Things were going pop and you could feel that Gary Allan was not really country pop, but not really like anything you’d heard before. He kind of had his own thing going on and while he had success in the past this was really a breakthrough for him.
That album was huge and this was actually the third single. He had already had two major singles off the record and this one is probably the most remembered and still most played of them all.
It’s just a really cool song about a guy that’s finally getting his priorities in life all straightened out. It’s not about work or the grind anymore. It’s about spending time with the person he loves and figuring out that is where he needs to be most of the time.
Gary Allan has been one of the most unique artists in country music history. He’s never really fit in with any of the movements or eras and that’s probably why he’s going on 20 years of having hits. When you’re your own genre you can decide what the rules are and Gary’s fans keep demanding more.
