Montgomery Gentry has a brand new single out and people are loving it. After more than 15 years on the charts, it’s hard for any band to maintain momentum, but the boys have been able to do just that over the years. They’ve changed record labels a few times now and they’re still going strong. I wouldn’t bet against their new single racing up into the top ten.
For today’s Throwback Thursday, I thought we could look at one of the duo’s biggest hit from 2001. I remember when this song came out. I can’t believe it’s already been this long since this song came out. I was working at a golf course on the grounds crew. Every morning I would drive around and reset the tees on every hole. I would listen to the local country station every morning.
The song, She Couldn’t Change Me, was always on. The song was a hit that summer and I still hear it once in a while today. It was about a guy and a girl that fall in love. Then the girl kind of thinks she wants something different. She changes her style and moves out and leaves the guy behind. Then she comes back home and realizes how much she loves the previous lifestyle.
I would say there are stories like this all the time. And it’s not just the women that change their minds only to change them back. Men do it just as much and we all drive each other crazy.
You could say this song is representative of some country acts. They try to keep up with the latest trends and style in the genre and they end up losing sight of who they really are.
You can’t say that about Montgomery Gentry, though. They still seem to be the same guys that came out rocking in 1999. I know their fans appreciate that they’re still rocking and I think new people continue to discover them today.
I hope you enjoy this #2 from 2001 back on the Carrying On album.
