Back in 2009, it certainly wasn’t easy for a singer with lots of twang to make it in the country world. As weird as that sounds, those were the odds facing Justin Moore, a country singer from Arkansas.
I remember when I first heard Small Town USA on the radio. I really liked the song. I thought this guy with twang really had something cool and traditional, but I wasn’t sure if fans were ready for someone that was this country. I’m glad I was wrong in my assumptions because Justin Moore has become one of the biggest stars in country music.
It just goes to show that you can still have a traditional sound in country music today. You can still be too country for country in 2014 and you could five years ago in 2009 when this song came out.
The song is an ode to the small towns where so many people that listen to country music grew up. I thought it was a good time to flashback to this song because Justin just released a new single with a similar sentiment to this one. He called the new one a more mature version of Small Town USA and I think that is very apt.
Both songs are good and I still hear this one on the radio from time to time. I always catch myself singing along. It’s a good one that will probably be played for many years.
Don’t you think?
