Charlie Rich was in his 40s when he finally started having hits on the charts.
I knew a little about Charlie and his career. I had always known his big hits like Behind Closed Doors and others.
Then a few years ago his career was brought back into the foreground of country music when Mark Chesnutt did a version of Rollin’ With The Flow. Great song and it did the original well.
That was a Charlie Rich classic.
Last week I was reading a story about Charlie Rich and it got me thinking that it was time to visit one of Charlie’s biggest hits.
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World – Charlie Rich
Check out that story on Charlie when you have a few spare minutes. It’s worth your time especially if you’re a fan of Charlie’s and even if you’re a fan of country music history.
As mentioned, Charlie’s career certainly didn’t happen overnight. He struggled for years until he finally had his first big hit in the ’70s. He kept going much longer than many would have stuck with it. I guess when you have no backup plan eventually you’re going to run into some success.
And once Charlie hit the big time he was right at the top. He had huge hits including this one and won the entertainer of the year award, but shortly after he ran into recurring issues with drinks and drugs and he was kind of left out of the country world thereafter.
It’s always good to go back and listen to these classic songs.
They’ll live on forever.
