Did you have a copy of Cracked Rear View?
I don’t know many people that didn’t own that CD.
The album came out in 1994 I think and the band, Hootie & The Blowfish, really blew up in 1995 and that fame continued for a couple years.
That album is still one of the best selling (and overall) best pop-rock records of all time. It had some incredibly catchy songs that people still love today.
The cool thing about that album was that it seemed to have something for everybody. It was a family album. It’s almost an album like a Pixar movie. It’s catchy and fun for the kids while still providing some great entertainment for adults.
About this time 20 years ago, early 1996, the band was still enjoying the success of the record.
The single, Time, was released in late 1995 and climbed the charts in early 1996. I think it was a #1 hit on Top 40 radio and it was well-deserved. It’s one of my favorite Hootie songs and I still turn it up each time it comes on the radio.
As a kid, I had no idea what it meant. I’m still not sure if I do today. It has something to do with passing time and how that affects all of us.
All I know is that the melody is killer and it reminds me of that time 20 years ago.
As all of us country fans know, lead singer Darius Rucker has gone on to have a really successful country career. The band still seems friendly and plays a few shows now and then.
I think we’re due for a new single from Darius sometime this year, but we’ll flashback today 20 years ago when this song was reigning on the charts.
