This past week we did some traveling. My wife and I drove a few hours for a family Christmas. Then we stayed home for another Christmas with family and finally we went to visit her family the following weekend.
Throughout the weekend we had on SiriusXM in the car. We usually switch between her favorite stations, which are The Blend and The Coffee House. I like those stations, but my bread and butter are the country stations with a little bias toward Prime Country, which offers songs from the ’80s and ’90s.
If you listen to Prime Country you’re going to hear a lot of Restless Heart. They’re probably one of the more underrated bands in country music history. We’re talking about a band that had four number one records off a single album. That just hasn’t been done very often by any act in country music.
Between 1986 and 1988 the band had six straight number one songs on the country charts and their success continued into the ’90s until the lead singer left to pursue a solo career.
That’s usually a death sentence for most bands, but Restless Heart made another record that became hugely successful with perhaps their most well-known song, When She Cries. The song reached the top ten on the country charts, but more interestingly reached #2 on the Adult Contemporary charts becoming a huge crossover hit.
And the song gets played all the time on classic country radio along with their other classics like Bluest Eyes In Texas and I’ll Still Be Loving You.
The band has been back together for a few years now. They continue to tour and I have to make it a point to go see them. Until then, though, we can enjoy their classics like When She Cries from 1992.
