Lady Antebellum is not breaking up. They’re taking a planned break. It’s a well-deserved break after non-stop recording, touring and promotion for the last 7-8 years.
While they’re on break, however, Charles Kelley is putting out some solo music.
Let’s check out the first single.
The Driver – Charles Kelley
Really interesting song. Charles was definitely going for something with more meaning than just your typical Bro Country pop hit that is on radio right now.
But this song should still be a hit and I think that’s the case for a few reasons.
First, the song is catchy. No, it’s not catchy in the traditional sense. It’s not uptempo. It won’t really make you dance around the kitchen, but songs don’t need that to be catchy. They need to make an impact, make you listen and make you sing along.
This song accomplishes that.
The song seems to be directly about the music lifestyle. I think it’s meant to bring the country performers, crew and the fans all together for a song. It’s about the life of being on the road and living that crazy life, but also the appreciation for the fans that come to the shows. They’re often looking for a better life and thinking that music can at least make them believe for at least a little while.
Labelmates Eric Paslay and Dierks Bentley join Charles on this one and it works pretty well.
I don’t know how thing song will do on the charts. It’s always challenging for a song about the music lifestyle to do well, but this one is unique and it’s good.
I think it could be a hit.
Chart Estimate: #10
