You wouldn’t think that duets would be so challenging to coordinate in country music. They happen all the time in the pop music world.
But in country things seem unreasonably difficult. I’ve heard artists in the past mention this.
It seems like a control thing. It’s not often that artists are on the same label. And labels don’t always play nice with each other.
But when duets do work out with artists from different labels it’s always pretty cool. And that’s what we have going on with the new single from Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood.
The Fighter – Keith Urban
When the latest Keith Urban came out I checked it out and for some reason this song was a standout. I really couldn’t say for sure what I liked about it. Maybe it’s just the incredibly catchy melody. You catch yourself singing this one hours after you’ve listened to it.
As the years go by Keith Urban just seems to care less and less about the rules in country music. He seems to be just making music that he enjoys.
We went from a pretty modern country song with Wasted Time to a lounge, jazz song with Blue Ain’t Your Color and now we have this ’80s Motown-type pop song with Carrie Underwood.
And it works really really well.
Carrie is coming off a string of successful singles so the timing of this one works out well for both artists. I think it sounds like a smash hit, but we’ll have to see how country fans respond.
