Joe Nichols is back with the followup single to his #1 smash [easyazon-link asin=”B003Y3HG98″]Gimmie That Girl[/easyazon-link].
The new single is [easyazon-link asin=”B003Y3DQ7O”]Shape I’m In[/easyazon-link] and it’s a different kind of song than Gimmie That Girl yet it sounds like a classic Joe Nichols song and that means it’s a new traditional country song.
[easyazon-link asin=”B003Y3DQ7O”]Shape I’m In[/easyazon-link] is slow and groovy. The narrator is down on his luck. He lost his woman yet he feels alright considering the shape he’s in.
The song’s message is that things aren’t all that bad despite a few bad things that happen in life. [easyazon-link asin=”B003Y3DQ7O”]Shape I’m In[/easyazon-link] has an interesting line where Joe sings “considering where I’ve been”. Joe recently went to therapy to work out a few issues. This song gives us a little insight into how Joe is feeling. He seems to be back on his feet and the songs he’s recording are up to par with some of the best country music today.
Joe Nichols is one of my current favorite artists today. He’s got an old country soul that bleeds emotion and tradition. He seems to put a bit of himself into every song. His best songs are often the most personal and [easyazon-link asin=”B003Y3DQ7O”]Shape I’m In[/easyazon-link] seems to have Joe feeling good about his life considering the shape he’s in.
While the song is about getting over a woman and realizing it takes a bit of time and more than a few small steps the emotion in Joe’s vocal gives the song a bit more depth. And that’s what makes this song a hit.
And the harmonica adds a nice little country twist as well. I love a good harmonica.
