At this year’s ACM Awards, two women established themselves in the country music record books.
For most of history, the men have ruled the charts, the sales, and the awards in country music. However, in the past few years, the women have been taking over all three aspects of the country world.
Artists like Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood have replaced the typical George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, and the other country superstars.
These ladies have been releasing music that is connecting with millions of country music fans across the world. Their unique style has a variety of influences including the great artists that have proceeded them as the superstars in country music.
Let’s take a closer look at the ladies that are taking over the country music world…
The last two albums Miranda Lambert has released have sold millions of copies. The albums have produced multiple hit singles. And each album has won the ACM Award for Album of the Year. She is the first female country artist to accomplish this feat.
It’s impressive for any country artist and producer to win an award for best album.
What’s exciting for Miranda Lambert fans is that she seems to be only on the rise in her young career.
Lambert is three albums deep into her career. Her singles keep reaching higher peaks on the country charts. Her videos are getting more creative with more impact.
Miranda Lambert has already achieved major status in the country world and her creativity, talent, and drive will only yield more music that connects with an ever expanding audience.
Very few artists have won two ACM Entertainer of the Year awards. The only ones up to this point have been male country artists.
That streak was broken in 2010 when Carrie Underwood became the first female country artist to win Entertainer of the Year award twice. And she did it in back to back years.
The former American Idol winner has worked her way to become one of the biggest and most respected country superstars in history – male or female.
Carrie Underwood burst onto the country music scene after winning the major award show with her debut album.
Nearly all of the singles went to #1 on the country charts. One single even received major airplay on the AC chart.
Underwood continued the success with her second and third albums. She even ventured into songwriting by writing some of her biggest hits after her debut album.
Carrie Underwood is taking control of her career and the results to this point have not been reached by any other female artists in country music history.
Like Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood is young, talented and we are likely seeing a star on the rise.
The best is yet to come.
There may be no artist in country music history that has worked their own way to the top of the music world than Taylor Swift.
There may be no bigger star in music these days than Taylor Swift.
Swift is appearing at the top of the country and pop charts with albums and singles. She’s been seen in hit movies and her headlining tour shows have been selling millions of tickets.
Taylor Swift is barely entering her third decade in the world and she’s achieved more than most country music superstars.
Swift’s drive to create and succeed seems to be what may take her to new levels of success in music and entertainment. She is a true guerrilla marketer as she’s worked extensively with new media and communication tools to connect with her huge audience.
Taylor Swift is at the first crossroads of her career. Many are hoping for that in her next chapter she takes her star to another level while connecting with ever more fans.
Those That Came Before
Many female country artists have paved the way for the stars that have taken over country music today.
There may not ever be an artist in country music that will sell more records than Shania Twain. Her album Come On Over is one of the biggest selling albums of all time – in any genre of music.
Shania Twain took country music to a new level of success with her blend of country, rock, and pop. She expanded the audience of country music and many were able to follow her lead and sell records, tickets, and merchandise in higher numbers.
Not many stars in any form of entertainment are known by one name. Reba McEntire has achieved that level of success and recognition. She has sold millions of records and is going on her fourth decade of taking country singles to the top of the charts. Reba has had a successful sitcom and has starred in movies on the big screen.
Reba was a pioneer as a female in the entertainment and specifically country music world.
Just about all of today’s female country music stars will credit Patsy Cline with inspiring them to become country music singers.
Patsy Cline had a voice that was pure country and her songs have become classic in the American lifestyle.
In the ’90s, there may have been no female country artist more talked about than Faith Hill. She may not have sold as many records as Shania, but Hill’s music stands on its own as country music standards.
Faith Hill married another country superstar, Tim McGraw, and the two have continued their successful professional and personal lives.
Faith Hill has released a Greatest Hits album and a Holiday album in recent years, but with her talent there is no doubt that we will see great things from her in the years upcoming.
The powerful voice of Trisha Yearwood is instantly recognized on the radio by country music listeners throughout the world.
Yearwood took hit after hit to the top of the country charts in the ’90s.
Now, Yearwood is Mrs. Garth Brooks and her recording has slowed some in the past few years, but her influence as a powerful voice in country music has definitely influenced today’s rising female country artists.
Having performed on huge stages since her teen years, Wynonna Judd is one of the biggest stars in country music.
Along with her Mom, Naomi, Wynonna Judd took the Judd’s to the top of the country charts in the ’80s with many hits that connected with female and male fans across the world.

The women are dominating country music these days.
Miranda, Taylor, and Carrie and selling the most recordings, the most concert tickets, and winning the biggest awards. All three are unique and are connecting with different factions of the country music audience.
Right now the woman are ruling country music.
