I hadn’t heard of Natalie Hemby before.
But I had heard plenty of the songs she’s had a hand in writing.
Natalie has been a powerhouse writer in Nashville for a decade. She’s had hits with Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town and more. It’s pretty incredible.
And it’s always cool to discover the writers behind the songs.
Natalie just released her first solo album and the first single is really good.
This Town Still Talks About You – Natalie Hemby
This one sounds like something that Kacey Musgraves could really do well. It just has that laid back vibe that’s been pretty cool in Nashville the last few years.
The song is from an interesting perspective. You have someone that’s still in a small town and they’re reflecting on someone that has left. They’re seeing how the town really remembers the person.
There are tons of small town visuals like the high school walls and running into people that mention the person.
The one thing I can’t put my finger on right now is the circumstances of how the person left.
Did they just move on after high school looking for brighter lights and bigger cities? Did they pass away too soon?
I think it’s left open for interpretation a bit. Maybe there is more in the lyric that I’ll have to listen for. I’ll definitely be checking out this song and others on the album.
It looks like Natalie put this one out independently. It’s been getting some good publicity it seems. I hope it does really well.
