When we look back on 2012 I think a lot of us will realize that Thomas Rhett came out of nowhere.
Country fans don’t even know what they’re in store for this coming year. Thomas Rhett is ready to release his debut album in 2012 and I think he’s ready for at least one big debut single and possibly even a second single by the time the year is over.
Thomas Rhett is really one of the new artists out there I think has a chance for some really big success. He’s had songs recorded by some big artists including one Jason Aldean’s latest album. The song was one of the better songs on a record that really had no disappointing songs.
This year could be the year country fans are introduced to Thomas Rhett and it’s going to be great.
Thomas Rhett in 2012
In 2011, Thomas Rhett was signed to The Valory Music Co. The label has been responsible for launching numerous careers including the recent launch of Brantley Gilbert. Well they technically didn’t launch Brantley’s career (hat tip to Average Joe’s), but Valory really launched Brantley into the mainstream.
Now, Valory is ready to launch Thomas Rhett into the country mainstream. And I think Thomas Rhett has an even greater chance than his labelmate and buddy, Brantley.
You probably would recognize the name Thomas Rhett Akins. That’s Thomas’ full name and he shares it with his dad, Rhett Akins. Most of you will remember Rhett from back in the ’90s as he had some huge hit songs on the charts (Don’t Get Me Started and That Ain’t My Truck). Since that time Rhett has been one of the most sought after songwriters in Nashville.
It seems like Thomas is going to stick with being known as his first two names (think Toby Keith and a couple other popular country singers). So Thomas Rhett will become the star starting in 2012.
The first single is always key for a new artist. Thomas Rhett has been writing songs for only a short time – just a year or two and he already seems to have some great tracks lined up for his debut record. There are a ton of YouTube videos up right now of TR performing. My favorite is the cut he had on Jason Aldean’s record, I Ain’t Ready To Quit. That song just rocks. It’s got his cool vibe to it that sounds great for country radio. I think it’s a little new for the country listener, but if TR comes out with that song I think it would be a hit.
But the folks at Valory probably have different plans and there’s no way I’ll argue with their results. I’m sure they’ll have something special lined up for launching Thomas Rhett in 2012.
If Thomas gets a single out sometime in February or March it will probably take some time for it to climb the charts. It’s always tough for new artists to break out on radio. People need some time to accept new acts. Hopefully by the summer people come around to the song and there will be enough momentum built for Thomas Rhett to release the full-length debut album sometime in the late summer or early fall. It’s a great time for an album release and it could be the start of a great career for this kid from Georgia.
Thomas Rhett has been out on tour with Brantley Gilbert for most of the year. The two have been playing clubs and fairs and now are even touring through places this winter. I’m sure it’s been great for Thomas to cut his teeth out on the road. It makes sense from the label standpoint to get him out on the road and used to the lifestyle. It’s kind of throwing the young kid into the fire to see if he can handle it all.
The thing about watching Thomas in all his interviews and performances on the videos is that he seems to have this laid back nature. Nothing seems to big for him and he seems to truly love being up on stage performing.
That’s a good sign as Thomas Rhett looks for a huge country career starting in 2012.
If things go as planned I’d say Thomas Rhett becomes a star in 2012.
There should be a new single out in the spring. Depending on how that goes we should see the album out on the shelves in the later summer or early fall. From there we might get a new single that should climb the charts just as 2013 rolls around. From there…it could be the sky is the limit for Thomas Rhett. The kid seems to have what it takes for a major career in country music.
Thomas’ dad, Rhett Akins, had a great career back in the ’90s and even today he’s one of the biggest songwriters in country. Now it’s time for junior to make a name for himself and really launch his career over the next couple years.
Let’s see if things work out.
