Something sounds different about Tim McGraw.
There is buzz in the country world from Tim McGraw. It’s been announced there is a new album Emotional Traffic coming later in 2011 from Tim and the first apparent single is making its way onto various channels as recordings from Tim’s latest concerts.
The track making the rounds is Right Back At Ya. It’s certainly got a unique sound. I’m not entirely sure how to interpret the track.
Listen for yourself…
Right Back At Ya – Tim McGraw
I can’t get over the fact this song sounds like something out of the singer-songwriter era of the ’70s. There is a bit of rock and roll from that era coming through on this track. There is a bit of James Taylor mixed with the Eagles mixed with Bob Segar. Tim was just a kid back in those days, but there is obviously some influence coming through on the track.
From a country standpoint I think the song has hit written all over it. Right Back At Ya has a great melody, a smooth groove, and it’s snappy enough to get people singing along. It reminds me a bit of the song Suspicions Tim did a few years back. In fact it was that song originally done by Eddie Rabbitt that seems to have the most similarities to this track.
Eddie was kind of the singer-songwriter pop-country artist back in the ’70s and ’80s. He blended together well across audiences and had a huge fanbase including many of today’s country artists.
Right Back At Ya hopefully makes its way to radio in the near future. I can’t wait to see how the country world reacts to this one from Tim McGraw. I’ll admit I’m even a bit surprised to see new music from Tim with his current label Curb. The two parties have battled in the past, but they always put aside their differences to come out with new music.
