Here is something completely different than what you’ll hear on country radio. I wish we could hear something like this on country radio. We’ve had the Bro Country thing going strong now for a few years and it’s time to get something new and fresh in there. That’s what you’ll get with this song from Parker Millsap. I like it. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I saw the last name and thought of Ronnie, but then I saw the other “L” in the name. Alright, let’s get to the music.
Truck Stop Gospel – Parker Millsap
Usually I can pull out some kind of understanding of the lyrics from the song, but this one I’m struggling with. My understandings of songs aren’t always right, but I can usually give this one a shot. I think what’s challenging on this one is the fact that the vocals and the music are so fresh and unique. I actually do hear maybe a little influence of Steve Earle in there, which is pretty cool.
I like this song and I like the video. I think it’s a great example of an artist doing something different and looking for that sound that is unlike everything else that’s going. You’re not always rewarded for that right away as an artist, but I think over time you can build something pretty special instead of something that’s just a flash in the pop world.
