Meghan Linsey was one half of the country duo, Steel Magnolia.
That’s where her intros still start today, but if she keeps releasing songs like this she’ll soon be known by her name without the additional reference to her former duo.
I really like this song. I think it’s one your’e going to like to.
Try Harder Than That by Meghan Linsey
There is a little bit of traditional country in this one, but also a lot of new country.
Let’s start with the new. You have hard rock guitars and riffs. That kind of puts in the area of Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan and on par with female artists like Carrie Underwood who is never afraid to show off her rock side.
Then you have the featured Bubba Sparxxx. He’s been around a while making his version of country music, which includes rapping. This sub-genre has been getting more and more attention and it fits in well in this song.
Then you have the other side of the song, which is traditional country. Strip away the guitars and the rap and you have a song that could have fit in real well in the early ’00s with artists like Cyndi Thomson and Sherrie Austin or even Jessica Andrews. I was a big fan of those artists and I’m a new fan of Meghan’s. She has a great voice and this song has a story that many out there can latch on to and relate to.
Share your thoughts on the song. There’s a lot to consider so I’m interested to hear what you have to say.
