Kellie Pickler has had one top ten record. That surprised me. I had to double check it while looking into her career. She’s been around for nearly a decade now in the country music spotlight. And I think she started out a very mature and engaging artist and has continue to become one of the strong role models in country music. I think she’s just great. She can play that doe in the headlights role sometimes, but you can tell that she’s very smart and graceful.
Here is a recent performance from Kellie on the Opry that shows off her classic style and grace.
Walking After Midnight – Kellie Pickler
That’s not an easy classic country song to cover, but Kellie does a great job. She doesn’t have what some might call the greatest set of female vocals in country music history, but I think Kellie is uniquely and wonderfully country in the way she sings.
There is something different about the way she sings. She brings a personality to her music that is hard to bring out in artists. It seems that so many singers are just playing the part and being instruments for producers and other industry leaders.
But with Kellie you get something unique. It might be a little raw at times and not always perfect, but it’s unique and that’s a good thing. I like this version and I’m glad she’s been able to continue to be very important to country music.
