Working hard and making music.
Wayne Mills and his band have been busy for years now. I was just introduced to their latest single and to my surprise the guys have been working hard to crack through on the country charts here in the USA. With multiple hits across the pond in Europe Wayne Mills is a country seasoned vet, but for whatever reason he’s still looking for recognition in his home country.
Last Honky Tonk is the title track from the new album. The song is a classic traditional country song. There is plenty of Merle, George, and even a little Doug Supernaw in the music of Wayne Mills. When they burn the last honky tonk down Wayne says he’ll be there playing his own music and the music of his honky tonk heroes.
From the looks of the video for Last Honky Tonk it looks like Wayne and his band are right at home on stage in an old honky tonk. A few beers on stage. A packed dance floor. And plenty of fiddles, guitars, and raspy voices make for the setting in the song and video.
I’m not sure if they’re really burning all the honky tonks down, but when they do it’ll be a sad day. I have to believe there will always be places like honky tonks. Country fans are too passionate about the music they love to let great hangouts go away.
Last Honky Tonk reminds me of Mark Chesnutt’s Somebody Save The Honky Tonks, which was one of my favorites songs. Wayne Mills seems to be working hard and eventually he deserves a real shot at country stardom.
What do you think of his new song?
