The image that comes to mind when you think of Jake Owen these days is a guy that likes to have fun. He’s had ballads and serious songs in the past, but his really big hits have seemed to be about summertime and doing things that are fun and just enjoying life.
Those are all great things and people like them. It’s part of the reason that Jake has become one of country’s biggest stars in recent years. But for his new single, Jake is changing things up a bit. Check this one out and share your thoughts below.
What We Ain’t Got – Jake Owen
I definitely agree with the theme of this song. Sometimes people get so caught up in what everybody else has that they forget all the good things they have themselves. And I’m not talking about just the physical things like cars or houses and stuff like that.
It might be looking at the relationship a person has with a parent and wishing that your parents were still around. Or it might be looking at the flexibility someone has with their work schedule versus your own schedule.
There are a million things like that today and it seems especially worse when we look on sites like Facebook.
That’s why I like this song. It’s a little glimpse into that world. And it can serve as a reminder that for the most part we’re all pretty much the same. We spend our money on things we like. We might not have new golf clubs, but maybe we have a nice truck. We might not have a family member around any more, but maybe we have a great group of best friends.
The song is good. It’s catchy even though it’s a ballad. It has the feeling of being one of those slow risers up the charts. I think it could turn into a pretty big hit.
