Jerrod Niemann has been an unlikely success in country music.
The songwriter has been kicking around Nashville for years. Earlier this year his song Lover, Loverwas able to defy the odds and become a huge #1 hit on the country charts. That song was about heartbreak, but the up tempo melody had people singing along for the entire summer.
It’s tough for artists to follow up such a successful breakthrough hit with another hit. Jerrod is attempting to do just that with his latest single.
The new track is about a guy that is trying all he can to get over a girl. He fights and fights the pain, but the girl keeps calling him every once and a while and all the emotions come back. The poor guy has to start all over again trying to get over her.
If you’ve ever been in a situation like this you probably know how the narrator in the song feels.
The emotion and pain come across in Jerrod’s vocals. He’s leaving things all out on the line for this song and it really comes across in a quality song.
Jerrod is a pop-country singer, but this song hits home with the country audience. Those out there looking for a heartbreak song to relate to will find this one to be somewhat therapeutic. It helps knowing that others understand your situation.
I’ll admit that it took me a while to come around on this song. I’ve been hearing it for a few weeks now and I never connected with it. I may have just been not in the right mood for the song, but now I see the quality in the song and the unique perspective it takes on heartbreak and telling a specific story.
What Do You Wantcould become another top hit for Jerrod.
