It’s been a little while now since Craig Morgan has been on country radio. Since 2010, the country singer has had three hits in the top 15 on the charts, but they’ve been spread out.
The biggest was probably This Ole Boy that was released in 2011 and I think it really became a hit in 2012. Then there was the sneaky Wake Up Lovin’ You, which reached the top 15 just two years ago in 2013-14.
Now it’s time for a brand new single on a new studio album.
When I’m Gone – Craig Morgan
Really good song from Craig. It’s something that totally makes sense for him to sing at this point in his life. I think he’s right up there around 50 years old. That’s at a stage in the careers of many country singers where they’re well beyond the point of having hits.
But I think this one will be a hit. I think it’s a unique way to connect with people of every age. Folks up there around the age of Craig will want to feel like they’re going to leave a legacy behind. And young people feel the same way. They’re probably not thinking about the end of life so much as they’re thinking about the middle part, but they still think about it.
And on the sound and melody side of things this song really seems like a hit. It’s not really a crazy dance song or a slowed down ballad. It’s right there in the middle with a good, upbeat groove. It’s something that should fit right in on country radio.
I think it sounds like another solid top 15 hit.
