Alright so we have some new music from Pat Green.
Yesterday we looked at the first song I remember of his. It was just about 15 years ago when he made it on the mainstream country music scene. He’s of course been working for even longer on the Texas scene and that’s where he is today.
But songs like this one are still making an impact. Great to have new music from Pat.
While I Was Away – Pat Green
The song is about a parent that has to be away from their kids while they are working.
This is the case for many parents. In Pat’s video you get a list of all the jobs that require parents to be away from their family for much of the year.
I can relate. My dad was an airline pilot so I guess he falls into the category.
But looking back on my childhood it never seemed like he was gone that often. It was our normal growing up, but he always seemed to be there for the moments that mattered. I know he had to give up promotion opportunities and things like that to get the schedule that was favorable.
But seeing the video still makes me think back to those days. I remember a few nights when my brother and me would wait by the front window with our little hands on the ledge just waiting for the moment when dad’s headlights would turn into the driveway.
Great song from Pat. It obviously means a lot to me and to many others out there.
I think this is a cover of a Zane Williams song although I can’t confirm if Zane wrote it or maybe if Pat and Zane wrote it together. I’m not sure.
Either way, it’s a great song with a great message.
