Whitey Morgan is a country throwback.
In the same style as new acts like Jamey Johnson, Whitey Morgan and his band – The 78’s are outlaws in the modern country world. The group is able to bring some new unique style and sound to modern country music. The ’70s influence comes through loud and clear in the music the guys make.
Listening to CML Radio the other day I heard a song from the guys’ first album and it really struck me as a classic country song that sounds good today yet could be a country classic from 1977. I love songs like Back to Back. The song is a true throwback to a lost era in country music. There is heartache, pain, and sadness in the lyrics and the vocals.
Back to Back – Whitey Morgan
What do you think of the song?
Back to Back is about a man and woman falling out of love. The couple is growing apart. They don’t need each other like they did in their early days together. What they had is no longer there. After they do their loving they lie back to back and don’t feel each other the rest of the night and day.
How great is that image?
Maybe great isn’t the right word, but Back to Back has great imagery with the story it tells. For anyone that’s been in love before and has seen that love fall out of favor over time this probably hits pretty hard.
I love the way the song sounds too. There is the classic ’70s feel as I mentioned above. The song has the edge in the vocals, but the emotion behind the lyrics is painful and sad. It is the perfect country song in so many ways.
It’s great and I’ve become a Whitey Morgan fan.
