Restless Heart is one of my favorite bands. They had a huge run in the 80s with all kinds of hits. In fact, they had a run of six straight number ones from 1986 through 1989. That’s not easy to do. That run continued into the 90s and they’re back together today still touring and recording.
They just came out with a new single. It’s a country classic that you’ll probably recognize and they do a killer job.
Wichita Lineman – Restless Heart
It’s amazing how good these guys all still sound together. It sounds like they’ve never stopped singing and playing together. Their harmonies were always something that set them apart in country music and it’s still there today. You don’t get a sound like this today in country music. Maybe the closest thing is the Zac Brown Band or maybe Lady Antebellum, but it doesn’t happen often.
The song is, of course, the Glen Campbell classic. Glen has been going through issues with dementia the last few years. A recent documentary is on Netflix and it’s really good. Many are affected by dementia whether themselves or someone they know. Restless Heart does a commendable job on their tribute to one of the best in music.
What makes me happy with this song is that it does the original justice while still sounding fresh and unique to Restless Heart. That seems to be a key with covers and tributes. The band made this version the Restless Heart version instead of redoing the Glen Campbell version.
What a great song. What a great tribute. How wonderful to have Restless Heart still recording in 2016 and sounding just as good as they did in 1986.
