Lori McKenna is a name you might not know, but you sure know her songs. She’s been one of the most successful songwriters in country music for a long time.
Two of her most recent big hits were Girl Crush by Little Big Town and Humble & Kind by Tim McGraw. Those songs had deep emotion and they also had great, if subtle, melodies.
Lori also released an album of her own this year, which is something she’s done for a long time. This new album is good. Here is one of the popular tracks from the new record.
Wreck You – Lori McKenna
This is a really good song. It’s something that seems to happen all too often in life. Two people get together and for whatever reason or reasons life moves on and their love for each other kind of moves on as well. The two people can’t seem to do anything right when it comes to the other person. They just seem to wreck each other.
This is a sad song. Have you ever been in a situation where you can only seem to hurt the person you’re with no matter what you do? All you can seem to do is the wrong thing?
As often happens with songwriters you figure out that songs like this one have been recorded by other artists. I guess this one was recorded by Heidi Newfield some years ago on her solo record. She was the lead singer of Trick Pony, a group that had some big hits in the ’00s.
I like that version and I really like this version by Lori. I’m going to have to check out her entire new record.
