A little bit of country music reminds me of the Hair Metal or Glam Metal of the late ’80s and early ’90s. The Bro Country stuff kind of has that feel to it. Good times. Good women. Trucks (instead of fast cars) and some really kicking melodies.
On the other side of that comparison would be the power ballads. Maybe those are coming in country, but I think we have a couple out there and this next one maybe kind of fits that mold.
Yours – Russell Dickerson
This one is actually pretty stripped down, but you’ll hear a few electric guitar solos in there. But the vocals take the front stage for most of the song and I think that was a good choice with the production.
This is the first time I’ve heard Russell Dickerson. He seems like he has a little rock in him and this song is pretty inward-looking and appreciative.
The song is about the appreciation this guy has for the woman in his life. He sees that he was kind of wandering through life without her. She kind of saved him or at least he felt a little empty without having her in his life.
We’ve heard similar stories before in country, but this song has a fresh sound to it. The chorus is really catchy even if it’s not an uptempo dance song. It’s a really solid song and fits in well with today’s country.
What do you think of this one from newcomer Russell Dickerson?
