Zac Brown and his band are having quite the ride.
The guys have been on a straight shot to the top of country music the last three years. Way back in the summer of 2008 the guys released their first major single Chicken Fried and by the fall the song was a huge hit on country radio. Fans were loving the song for it’s unique southern style, exquisite musicianship, and catchy melody. The song went straight the top and the band followed with more hits and millions of records sold.
Just last year the guys released their second major studio album and the first couple tracks are already hits. In between the studio sets the guys even found time to release a great collection of live tracks and videos. It was probably the highlight of their career from my perspective. There were some great performances captured on record on that album including Can’t You See with Kid Rock.
The Zac Brown Band doesn’t appear to be letting up one bit in 2011. There is plenty ahead this year for the guys.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the Southern Ground…
Zac Brown Band 2011
It’s looking like a big year for ZBB. The guys just released their second studio set on a major label. The first single went to #1 on the charts. The second single isn’t far behind. I’m sure there will be more releases to follow. There are a number of tracks on the album I’d love to hear on radio. The possibilities are endless.
Let’s look at a few of the details.
Zac Brown is heading out on the Goin’ Coastal Tour with Kenny Chesney this summer. Kenny’s shows are always huge. He plays the biggest shows of anyone in country music right now including football stadiums. He actually has a show this summer in Green Bay at Lambeau Field – home of the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers. I had to throw in a little Wisconsin pride there. And it looks like ZBB will be there with Kenny at Lambeau.
Zac Brown also has their own Southern Ground festival shows. The show appears to be really gaining steam for the guys as they work to promote their brands and their home towns. The guys are even selling tons of tickets on their own these days.
It’s a full summer of shows for Zac Brown and his band so look for them on the road in a city near you.
You Get What You Give
The guys have a hit album on their hands.
You Get What You Give has been heating up the charts since its release. The singles have been huge hits and fans have been scooping up copies of the songs and album by the hundreds of thousands. The album has even been a huge seller by the fans here at CML.
The album looks like its heading straight to platinum and depending on the number of singles it could go double platinum just like its predecessor. I’d say there are at least 2 more singles to be released from the set. The guys released five singles from their first album and four went number one and the other went number two. It’s tough to follow that up, but these guys have the tracks here to do it again.
If I had to guess on the singles I’d say Knee Deep featuring Jimmy Buffett this summer. That’s a bit of a stretch since it’d be expected and there is always politics surrounding duets. You know I also kind of like No Hurry. That’s the kind of track I can see climbing the charts later this fall. If I had to pick a third I’d go with Make This Day just because it’s so different from anything the guys have released up to this point and it’s way different than anything on radio.
Those are probably completely wrong and that’s ok because the other songs on the album are great too.
I don’t know what it is but I have a feeling the guy sare going to throw something like a Christmas album out this year. I have nothing to go on for that prediction, but it seems like they could put something spectacular together in time for Christmas. They would be able to do a great Christmas set.
Other than that I think we’ll have to wait until at least next summer to see new studio music from ZBB. It’s usually about one and a half to two years between albums and if the guys go with four or five singles it’ll put us into next summer before a fresh single comes out followed by a new album.
It’ll be worth the wait I’m sure.
ACM Awards and Misc.
Until that time the guys will be out performing on the ACM Awards.
Zac is doing some producing.
And Zac is busy having babies and donating land. The guy is unstoppable.
I’m thrilled at the success ZBB is having in their early career.
They just seem like hard working guys trying to play music they like and do it better than anyone else. I heard a saying today somewhere where a guy said the key to success is to out work everybody else. I think the phrase suits Zac Brown and the band perfect. The guys work hard. They don’t mess around on stage and they’re always tight with their music.
I’ll be seeing the guys this July in Eau Claire for the first time. I’m super pumped and can’t wait to check them out.
There is no slowing down the Zac Brown Band this year. Look for more hit singles and probably a few surprises by the end of 2011.
