The Zac Brown Band is everywhere these days.
The guys have yet another single heating up the charts. All signs point to their latest single hitting the top spot making it another notch on the belt for the band. They’re running through 2011 on another successful album and have a big touring schedule this summer as they head to festivals and fairs. I’m looking forward to seeing them in July in Eau Claire, WI. It’ll be the first time I see them.
In the last few weeks I’ve been following Nascar a bit more than usual. Eau Claire native Paul Menard has been off to a good start this year. I haven’t been a huge fan of Nascar, but Menard’s story intrigues me. He’s always been kind of ridiculed because his dad is successful, but now Paul is showing he can step out of the shadow and become his own man.
Anyway, so I was watching the race this week again and I heard a song from the Zac Brown Band during a promo. It appeared the guys have stepped in with a song to help boost the appeal of Nascar a bit this season – not that the thriving sport needs it. I thought it was neat when country artists lent their hand to the sport.
The song is I Play The Road and it’s a track off the band’s latest album. It’s kind of a fun upbeat track with a little pep. The song showcases the band’s unique playing style once again. Zac’s lead vocals are right on point again with the backing harmonies matching nicely as they always do. This band has made their name as one of the tightest bands in country music. Nobody can really top them.
With I Play The Road the guys are singing about their live on the road. It’s not a song that can connect with everybody, but it fits the Nascar driver lifestyle perfect. And even those hard working people out there traveling around on the road for work can relate. The song is upbeat about the life on the road and also upbeat about coming home.
I think I Play The Road is a refreshing track for Nascar. It’s not the speedy fast kind of track that falls into cliche for the sport’s promos. This one is a bit more friendly while still being fun and upbeat.
I like it.
