I’ve been kind of waiting on a new Colt Ford single for awhile. He’s a guy that I really root for in country music. His style is different and it’s not for everybody, but he’s been working hard for a long time now and he’s always looking for that first hit at radio.
For this one he’s changing things up a little bit. He’s doing a little more singing on this one instead of rapping. He’s done that before, but this one sounds like he’s shifting just a bit. It’s still Colt Ford, but this one could be a radio hit.
Let’s check it out.
4 Lane Gone – Colt Ford
Colt has made his mark by rapping and singing about the country life. This time he’s changing things a little bit and focusing on the story of a guy that’s trying to chase down a girl before she heads out of town and leaves him.
This is kind of a throwback country song in a way. It’s a story song. We don’t get too many of those anymore, but this one kind of plays out right in front of us. And if you listen to the lyrics you can probably think of a story you know that matches this one.
I don’t know how radio feels about Colt these days. This one seems like it would fit in perfectly on country radio. Colt’s gruff vocals come through really nice and the production is definitely radio-ready.
I think it’s got a shot.
