It’s incredible how Eric Church has risen through the country ranks. Five years ago my now-fiancee and I saw him at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Have you heard of it?
Eric was the headliner that night and he put on a really good show. It was right when his second album was starting to take off. He had a handful of top 20 hits, but really nothing crazy going on in his career. What stood out, though, was the crazed fans in the front row. Eric played every song on his first two albums and these fans were singing along with every word of every song.
That was impressive so maybe it’s not a surprise to see Eric now as one of the biggest stars in country music. Here is a video he put out earlier this month for one of the songs on his new album.
A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young – Eric Church
The cool part about Eric is that he’s not afraid to try different things. This song is just him and his electric guitar. It’s a pretty cool song. You don’t really hear this type of recorded song released on record. All the artists out there want to push the limits of production. And then they sometimes cut it back with acoustic versions, but never really something with an electric guitar sound.
From what I hear this song is about a guy that feels like he’s kind of a rebel. He knows who he is and he knows he’s probably not going to change all that much over time. But he’s found a woman that loves him for who he is. He’s not sure why she loves him, but he’s happy she does and he appreciates it.
I’m sure there are some of us out there that can appreciate this. Man or woman – we all have people that love us for who we aren’t and don’t expect us to change.
Great song from a great artist.
