Kenny Chesney - Go Pack Go!

It’s that time of year.

Tonight is country music night in America. The stars are all together for one of the few times and there will sure be some great moments on national TV tonight as fans everywhere tune in for some great music and excitement.

The past year has been amazing for country music fans and the artists get to share the success tonight as they take home the biggest awards possible.

Will your favorite artist take home an award tonight?

Share your thoughts on who you think will win.

These are my picks for tonight’s winners.

ACM Awards 2012: Predictions

I’m going almost entirely with gut instinct on these. Let’s see how things go.

Vocal Event of the Year

Should Win: You and Tequila – Kenny Chesney with Grace Potter

Will Win: You and Tequila – Kenny Chesney with Grace Potter

I had a tough time with this one. Right out of the gates with the first award I’m struggling. I have to think they’ll go with this song because I don’t think they’ll pick it for song of the year. I feel it was truly the best country song of the past year and a great collaboration. Plus it brought Deana Carter back into the fold in country. Great stuff.

Video of the Year

Should Win: Mean – Taylor Swift

Will Win: Just a Kiss – Lady Antebellum

Another hard one to pick. Taylor’s video rocked. I just have a feeling they’ll go with Lady Antebellum. They had an incredible year and this video was great too.

Songwriter of the Year

Should Win: Rhett Akins

Will Win: Rhett Akins

Man. These guys are all great. Each of them deserves this award especially since three of them – Rhett, Dallas, and Ben – all work together so often as the Peach Pickers. I’m going with Rhett just because he’s awesome. I love his own recorded material and I love him as a songwriter.

I don’t even know if this award is presented on TV, but it would be awesome to see Rhett up there on stage nearly 20 years after he debuted on the charts himself.

Song of the Year

Should Win: You and Tequila – Kenny Chesney with Grace Potter

Will Win: Just A Kiss – Lady Antebellum

I could be completely wrong on this one. Lady A is rocking. Their songs are killer, but Kenny nailed it with this track. I’m not sure what made him want to record this record, but it’s awesome. Deana Carter wrote it almost 10 years ago and it was never a single. I think the song is awesome and Kenny and Grace did amazing with it. Lady Antebellum had a great year, though, and I have a feeling they’ll pull this one off again.

Single of the Year

Should Win: Red Solo Cup – Toby Keith

Will Win: Crazy Girl – Eli Young Band

I think the academy will shock people when they pick Crazy Girl. The song is certainly deserving and would have no one angry if it won the award. I think it was a great record and one of the best singles of the year. My personal feeling is that Toby Keith deserves this award. His single was huge. We’re talking big time sales. It was a great song. People loved it. Others really hated it. It’s my single of the year.

Album of the Year

Should Win: My Kinda Party – Jason Aldean

Will Win: Chief – Eric Church

Any of these five records could win. I honestly have no clue. I’m going with gut in saying there will be another semi-surprise when Eric Church wins. I do feel like Jason Aldean had the best record, though. It’s been my personal favorite record of the last 18 months. The entire album is full of single-worthy songs. I’ve worn it out on iTunes. Jason is the man. Any time you can kind of change the sound of country music I think it deserves some acknowledgement.

New Artist of the Year

Should Win: Brantley Gilbert

Will Win: Brantley Gilbert

Scotty could pull this thing out, but Brantley is the man. Not only is he a new artist in country that’s having huge success, but he’s doing it with a completely different sound. You’ve never heard this kind of stuff in the country genre before. It’s awesome. I love it. New artist of the year for sure.

Vocal Group of the Year

Should Win: The Band Perry

Will Win: Lady Antebellum

How can you pick from this list? They’re all deserving. I have no clue who will win, but I’m picking Lady A as the official choice of the academy. My choice is The Band Perry. They win me over more with each new single. I think they’re great. Plus you have the Zac Brown Band out there rolling off number one hits like it’s their job? How can you pick this award? Seriously.

Vocal Duo of the Year

Should Win: Montgomery Gentry

Will Win: Thompson Square

Next year put me down for Love & Theft. This year I think they’ll choose Thompson Square. The duo is certainly worthy. I can’t argue with the choice if it happens. My personal side had to go with the comeback of Montgomery Gentry, though. New label. Same sound. Great music and the guys can still rock the country world.

Female Vocalist of the Year

Should Win: Taylor Swift

Will Win: Miranda Lambert

This one is going to be close. Will Miranda and Blake bring home the couple trophies again this year? I think it’s going to happen, but I feel Taylor Swift actually had the bigger year of the two. It’s hard for me to say that because I’m not really a fan of Taylor’s, but for her core audience she brings it all the time with her songs and I have to respect that. She’s perhaps the biggest act in all of music right now.

Male Vocalist of the Year

Should Win: Blake Shelton

Will Win: Blake Shelton

Man…Blake is taking country outside of its boundaries this year. For that I have to give him this award and I think the academy will as well. You could easily give this to Jason Aldean for having one of the biggest albums of the last year and some of the biggest singles of all time. I just have to go with Blake for how he’s taking things outside of the box right now and expanding the role of country music.

Entertainer of the Year

Should Win: Jason Aldean

Will Win: Taylor Swift

I’m on the fence about this one. I truly feel these are two of the best performers around right now. All I hear about Taylor Swift shows are how amazing they are for her fans. I’ve seen Jason a few times. The guy is rocking and is becoming the next Kenny Chesney. And let’s not forget about Mr. Chesney. The man plays the biggest shows every year to the biggest crowds. The man brings it and this next year is looking even bigger with his tour with Tim McGraw.
