It’s always fun to review music from new artists. Alayna is a brand new country artist. She’s right on the edge of finding her way to the mainstream audience. She’s taking the path of releasing a collection of six new songs. The debut EP has something for everyone that likes the current mix of pop and country on the mainstream radio. She sounds a little like Kelly Clarkson, but Alayna has her own sound.
Check it out.
Alayna – Top of a Dream
Overall the album has a good change of pace. There are slow songs and fast songs. The record seems to have all the necessary topics that would affect a young woman trying to make it in the world. I think it’s a solid debut from a singer that shows potential for releasing something really great in the future. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
1. Top of a Dream
The title track of the EP is a big ballad. It’s ambitious. This is the track where Alayna sounds most like Kelly Clarkson. It’s a good song that really goes for the glory with the sound and the lyrics. It’s a good song. I’m sure a few of you will like this one the most on the entire record. It’s not my personal favorite, but it’s a good one.
2. Let’s Get Outta Here Tonight
What young person or young couple doesn’t want to just get up and leave? That’s how the girl in this song feels. It’s about grabbing what you can and hitting the road with the one you love.
3. Gonna Love You Anyway
This is another slow ballad. There is emotion and real feeling in the lyrics. It’s about a love that’s had struggling times. We’ve all had those relationships with people that strain us and make us want to give up. But something inside keeps us fighting.
4. So Far No Good
This is might favorite on the record. The banjo reminds me of The Band Perry a little bit. It’s a fun song. I could see this being a single for radio stations. It’s fun in melody, but the song is about the struggles a young woman has with a relationship. She’s breaking the heart of someone she cared for and it’s really tough on her. I’m sure lots of folks out there can relate to this song. It’s a good one.
5. Daddy’s Blue Eyes
Here is a song for daddy. It’s touching once again. I think Alayna has a good ear for a good melody. This is another enjoyable record that sounds like it could be on the radio. It’s a solid song and the extra touch of mentioning daddy should make all the blue eyed girls out there think of their dad.
6. Sweet Lies
Now here is a rocking track. This is the way to end a record. You leave them wanting more and I think that’s exactly what this song does. It’s something extra for all those folks out there looking to really get up and go with their country music.
