Every once in a while I like to give a little nod of the cowboy hat to some songs that aren’t heard by the majority of country fans.
I’m talking about the songs on albums that don’t become radio singles, commercials, or soundtracks. There have been many examples in the past of great songs that seem to fall through the cracks.
Most country fans discover new music via the radio, which is great, but often this leads to missing out on some great tracks. In today’s iTunes world, there is even more risk of fans not ever getting to hear all of the tracks on an artist’s album. I think iTunes has been great, but country artists just don’t have the resources to market every track individually.
Here is the little I could do to promote three tracks I really thought deserved to be heard in the last couple years.
Choice Album Cuts from Chris, Jason, and David
If you have any to suggest please share your thoughts in the comments. Also be sure to share this post to get the word out there about these songs. The fans are always the ones to push the songs the most and get them heard by the major country fanbase.
When She’s On – Chris Young
Ok, I’m jumping the gun on When She’s On. Chris is currently working his way through the second single off Neon. It’s no sure bet that When She’s On won’t be a single, but here’s my little call for it to be. This track is awesome. I love the entire album, but I find myself coming back to this track all the time. It’s got a great melody that makes you sing along. It’s about a woman and aren’t most great country songs about women? Check this one out.
I Ain’t Ready to Quit – Jason Aldean
Jason Aldean turned into a superstar with the My Kinda Party album. Seriously, there are like 8 single-worthy songs on this record. It’s almost a shame that so many won’t see the light of day on the radio. I guess that’s the “downside” to making such a great album these days. Hopefully you’ll check out all the songs, but check out I Ain’t Ready To Quit in particular. It’s co-written by one of country’s brightest stars, Thomas Rhett. I think you’ll like this one. If you’ve made a few rough choices in life, but aren’t ready to give up on anything then this one’s for you.
This Time Around – David Nail
David Nail is riding on his biggest single to date with Let It Rain. He seems to be falling into a good place right now in country music. He’s not traditional by any means, but he’s unique and people are loving his country-soul. I’m a big fan and the only complaint I have is that we couldn’t get one more single from his debut record. The best choice would have been This Time Around. I first heard the track earlier this year when I saw David in concert. When he was playing the song up on stage I had one of those “Ah-ha” moments and immediately grabbed my phone to research the song. Check it out and listen for yourself. It’s a great song and maybe someday it’ll get a little more promotion.
