Album Review: Never Regret by Craig Campbell

Craig Campbell Never RegretCraig Campbell is probably one of the most deserving guys in country music. You know him from his hits from the last couple years Family Man and Fish. These songs put Craig on the map and even though they didn’t crack the top ten on the charts they still made Craig known to the mainstream country audience.

That’s a bit accomplishment for a guy on an independent label. But make no mistake. Craig Campbell is not an independent artist. He has the chops to stick around for a while and the proof comes once again with his sophomore album.

Craig stays in his pocket with a few catchy songs including the first single Outta My Head and also pushes some buttons on this new record. It’s a great mix of traditional sounding country, which I love with a few modern twists. It’s a great combination for catching the ears of fans that still like that ’90s sound, but with a little updated feel.

Here is my track by track review of the entire album.

Album Review: Never Regret by Craig Campbell

Overall the album sounds like a great extension from the first record. It has some catchy songs that would sound great on radio. There are also some ballads on the record – more than I would have thought – that could do well with the female audience. That’s where the traditional country comes in when Craig pulls out the beer and sheds a few tears.

1. Truck-N-Roll

This would be my choice for the next single based on the melody alone. I really like this one and it’s my favorite on the entire record.

2. Keep Them Kisses Comin’

Another catchy song. It’s a great way to start off the record. Two back to back great tracks.

3. When She Grows Up

This is the one for the fathers and daughters out there. Chris Cagle has a song with a similar emotion out right now, but maybe this one can come out later in the year and do well.

4. Tomorrow Is Gone

Sometimes you just feel like things will never get better. The only way to react is to listen to those that are going through the same thing. That’s what songs like this are for.

5. Never Regret

The title track is one of the best on the record. I really like this one. It’s catchy. It’s got a good message and it could be a single. That probably makes about 4-5 songs that could be singles.

6. My Baby’s Daddy

Great melody on this one. It could be a single, but I don’t know. It’s got a great hook.

7. Topless

This is a fun song. It’s not meant to be anything more than that. You can’t have all ballads and love songs on a record. There needs to be a little fun for the live shows.

8. When Ends Don’t Meet

This is one that will remind you of Family Man. It’s about a guy that has a great partner in life. They help each other out all the time especially when ends don’t quite meet. Craig has this niche covered for the folks out there struggling to get by each month.

9. Outta My Head

This was the lead single that is just about ready to crack into the top 30. Great song with a great hook. The aim was probably to create the same effect with the song.

10. That’s Why God Made A Front Porch

This one reminded me of the old Tracy Lawrence song, but that’s only because of the title. This is a medium tempo song with a really cool melody of its own and a great story. One of my favorites on the album.

11. You Can Come Over

This one is another ballad. It’s a really good song with a great slow melody and plenty to like if you like those frustrated feeling songs.

12. Lotta Good That Does Me Now

I like this song. I don’t know if it’ll make it to radio so be sure to check it out. If you’re someone that learns lessons a little later than normal you can relate to this song.
