Can JT keep the momentum going with this new single?
It had been about five years since Josh Turner had released an album. Deep South came out earlier this spring and has been a hit.
The official second single, Hometown Girl, was a smash hit at radio. The first single came out way back in 2014 (Lay Low).
I think it’s pretty cool that Josh’s label, MCA, stuck with him for so long. There have been a few details the last few years. Just some typical label timing and changes at the top and things like that I think.
It’s cool that Josh stuck with the course too. It had to be frustrating, but it’s all paying off now and we’re on to the next single. And it sounds like a hit.
All About You – Josh Turner
There are a few things working against Josh’s career. One would be that he’s been at this now for about 15 years. There aren’t many artists in the history of country music having hits in two different decades.
Tastes change. Lives change. It just doesn’t work very often.
Another side of things is the fact that Josh is very much a traditionalist in the country world. As tastes in country change he has to adapt a bit while still finding a balance with his traditional style.
We see this with artists like Chris Young and Joe Nichols. And a few others.
I think this song sounds like the perfect blend of traditional and modern. It’s catchy. It’s uptempo and really something fun as we head into the summer months.
